Besides my parents, Scouting has made the biggest impact on my life. As an Eagle Scout one of the many aspects that I have made part of my life is the Scout Motto - “Be Prepared”. It’s meant to teach Scouts to always be in the state of readiness at all times, both in body and mind. It has been a cornerstone of Scouting for over a century.
The state of readiness is being prepared for everyday events as well as emergency events and everything between. Basically, being prepared for anything that can come your way. Having what you need on-hand can make a big difference in how easily and quickly you can handle whatever life throws your way. Buying what you need when you need it can come with a very heavy opportunity cost both financially and emotionally. The financial cost can be anywhere from 2 to 10 times when compared to purchasing something during a deal. By keeping an eye out for deals on things to help you be prepared can keep more money in your pocket and keep your wits about you. Here is a short list of things to keep on-hand to help you be prepared.- First Aid Kit
- Flashlight
- Pocket/Utility knife
- Multitool
- Portable backup battery
- Disposable mask
- Disposable gloves
- Duct tape
